My Feathered Friends
My
birds have been with me for a number of years. Our family
would not be complete without my fine feathered friends. Birds
can make delightful pets. What many people don't realize
is they require lots of attention, proper nutrition and adequate
medical care from a qualified avian veterinarian. Before
adding a bird to your family, you should get as much information
as possible and give it as much thought
as you would if you were considering adopting any other pet.

Shadow is an
eleven-year-old female
African Grey Parrot that I raised from a baby. She has a huge
vocabulary and is an outstanding talker. Shadow also imitates the
sounds of our other pets. It is not uncommon to hear Shadow
barking like one of the dogs or meowing like a cat. She is a
talented singer, too. Her favorite tune is the theme song from the
TV show, Cops. Of course, she has changed the words to suit herself
and sings, "Bad bird, bad bird. Whatcha gonna do when they
come for you." |
| This
is Doins, an eight year old Indian
Ringneck Parrot. She loves to be
held and cuddled. She also has a huge vocabulary and is a voracious
talker. She knows most of my other pets by name and often calls them. One of
her favorite pastimes used to be calling, "Here kitty,
kitty." When a cat came running and pressed its face against
the cage, she would nip it on the nose then laugh
hysterically. Of course, my cats have wised up and now won't go
near any of the birds. |

No, this isn't a
two-headed bird. This is Mickey and Nugget, also known as the
McNuggets. They are eight year old Pacific Parrotlets. They may be small in size, being only about three inches
tall, but they are big on personality. The McNuggets are quite comical
and acrobatic. It is amazing to see them doing loop-the-loops on a
perch or swinging together on their swing......upside down!
